Bay St. Louis, MS – Leadership Hancock County Class of 2014-2015 is partnering with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Hancock County in an effort to raise awareness and funds to expand child advocacy for children in foster care through a playhouse raffle. Currently CASA of Hancock County is serving 40% of the children in foster care and the Leadership Class wants to help them to increase their footprint. This ‘Raising the Roof’ campaign will help expand their efforts to reach and help more children in our community.

“With over 450 Hancock County children in foster care, we must ensure that these innocent victims of child abuse and neglect are safe and that their time in foster care is temporary. CASA advocates are the link between where the child is and where the child needs to be’, state Cynthia Chauvin, Executive Director, CASA of Hancock County.

This campaign is a unique way to involve children in service at an early age. Leadership Hancock County has enlisted the support of the Hancock County Career and Technical Center to design and construct the playhouse.

“Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”, states Natalie Guess, Leadership Chair for the ‘Raising the Roof’ campaign. “There is an obvious problem involving our foster children in our community. They are our future leaders. Our class has decided to raise awareness and advocate for them the best we can. What better way than to get the children of our community involved in the process and give back to them”.

The Leadership Hancock County class is asking you to consider getting involved in any capacity, by either purchasing tickets or becoming a sponsor of this unique community service project.

All proceeds from “Raising the Roof” will go to benefit CASA of Hancock County. These proceeds will enable the organization to recruit, train, and support a diverse group of volunteers who will advocate on behalf of the abused and neglected children in Hancock County.
